Karwitz is a municipality in the district Lüchow -Dannenberg in Lower Saxony and part of the Elbtalaue based in Dannenberg.

Geography

Geographical Location

Karwitz lies west of the town of Dannenberg (Elbe ) embedded in a moraine, it rises between 32 m and 110 m above sea level.

Community structure

The municipality consists Karwitz since the municipal reform of 1972 from the seven districts listed below. Additionally, there are the five residential spaces Old Pudripp, Karwitz station, yard Lebbien, mill Thunpadel and Zieleitz. The former forest settlement Pharpar is a deserted since the task in the 1970s.

Before 1972 belonged Karwitz station, yard Lebbien, mill Thunpadel and Gamehlen to the municipality Thunpadel; Alt- Pudripp to Pudripp and Dragahn, Lenzen, Nausen and Zieleitz to the municipality Karwitz.

History

Incorporations

On 1 July 1972, the municipalities Pudripp and Thunpadel were incorporated.

Policy

The municipality belongs to the Karwitz parliament constituency 48 Elbe and the Bundestag constituency 38 Lüchow -Dannenberg - Lüneburg.

Parish council

The Council of the Municipality Karwitz is composed of nine councilors, and has since the local elections 2006, the following distribution of seats:

  • SPD - 1 seat
  • Green - 1 seats

Mayor

The mayor of the municipality is Karwitz Horst Harms of the CDU (re-elected on 14 November 2006).

Traffic

Road

The B 191 Uelzen -Dannenberg through the districts Pudripp and Karwitz and provides the transport links to the center ground Dannenberg and Uelzen to the middle center safely.

Rail transport

The leading through the municipality railway Uelzen -Dannenberg is shut down. The former station Karwitz is about 2 km south-east of the main town. About five kilometers west of the main town in the district Pudripp is the former station Pudripp.
