Wustrow, Lower Saxony

Wustrow ( Wendland) is a city in Lower Saxony Lüchow- Dannenberg.

Name

The name originated from the Slavic ( " Wendish "). He was told exactly derived from the name polabischen Wåstrüw ( cf. Czech ostrov, Russian остров [ ostrov ] ), which means " island ".

Geography

The small town is in each case located about 6-8 km as the crow Lüchow and Salzwedel in the south of the district Lüchow -Dannenberg.

History

Around 1217, the foundation of the castle by Tidericus (or Thiedherd ) of Wustrow at the mouth of the fool in the Jeetzel to secure the waterway between Salzwedel and the Elbe. 1377 Wustrow was first mentioned in documents as a city. During a major fire in 1691, only five houses, a barn and the right part of the castle were spared.
