Wustrow, Lower Saxony

Wustrow ( Wendland) is a city in Lower Saxony Lüchow- Dannenberg.

Name

The name originated from the Slavic ( " Wendish "). He was told exactly derived from the name polabischen Wåstrüw ( cf. Czech ostrov, Russian остров [ ostrov ] ), which means " island ".

Geography

The small town is in each case located about 6-8 km as the crow Lüchow and Salzwedel in the south of the district Lüchow -Dannenberg.

By 4 km west of the B248 and just a few kilometers north of Saxony -Anhalt town in the Jeetzel flows. In the north of the urban area, the Wustrower Stupid flows into the Jeetzel.

The city Wustrow ( Wendland) on the west by the municipality Luckau (Wendland), on the north by the municipality of coasts and the county seat Lüchow ( Wendland), to the east by the municipality Lübbow and on the south by the county town of Salzwedel in the Altmark Salzwedel (Saxony -Anhalt).

History

Around 1217, the foundation of the castle by Tidericus (or Thiedherd ) of Wustrow at the mouth of the fool in the Jeetzel to secure the waterway between Salzwedel and the Elbe. 1377 Wustrow was first mentioned in documents as a city. During a major fire in 1691, only five houses, a barn and the right part of the castle were spared. In Wustrow recorded in the 18th century Christian Henning von Jessen first time on a large part of Polabischen language.

On 1 July 1972, the municipalities Blütlingen, Güstritz, Klennow, Lensian and Teplingen were incorporated.

Policy

Since November 1, 2006 Wustrow belongs to Samtgemeinde Lüchow ( Wendland). The city is also on the Landtag Constituency 48 Elbe and the Bundestag constituency 38 Lüchow -Dannenberg - Lüneburg.

The city council has since the local elections on 11 September 2011, including 13 mayors members.

Sports

1891 Gymnastics Club Wustrow was founded and established the first women's department in 1921. 1920, the sports club was founded. 1937, the two clubs were merged for gymnastics and sports club Wustrow.
