Geography

Geographical Location

Damnatz located in the Elbe Valley Nature Park and Biosphere Reserve Lower Elbtalaue directly on the Elbe. The community belongs to the Elbtalaue, which has its headquarters in the town of Dannenberg (Elbe ).

Origin of the name

Art

In the cemetery of Damnatz the writer Nicolas Born is buried. His grave is adorned with a grave stone sculptor Klaus Müller- Klug.

In Damnatz is the sculpture garden Damnatz founded by the artist couple Monika Müller- Klug and Klaus Müller- Klug with the support of the Foundation for sculpture in 1994. The grounds of the sculpture garden is a former, directly situated on the Elbe parish garden. To date, there are 30 large-scale sculptures by 10 different artists on the 10,000 square meter site. In a for the exhibition and event space converted former barn is a collection from the fields of sculpture, painting and installation is created.
