History

Origin

Today's federal highway 87 was used in medieval times as a road link between Frankfurt ( Oder) and Leipzig. Between Leipzig and Eckartsberga it follows the historical course of the Via Regia. Their expansion into a fortified Art Street was completed in 1819. Until 1845, the road connection from Leipzig to hurry castle was completed. To permit the development of distance of Eilenburg to Frankfurt (Oder ), an equity club was founded on 20 November 1854. The Frankfurt on the Oder Leipziger Chaussee construction company had its headquarters in Lubben. The route ran from Eilenburg about Torgau, Herzberg, Schlieben, Luckau, Lubben, Beeskow and garbage rose to Frankfurt ( Oder). The easternmost section between Frankfurt ( Oder) and Beeskow in 1856 expanded into a fortified Art Street. The Chausseebau south of Umpferstedt began in 1860 with the stretch after Mellingen.

Earlier routes and designations

The Prussian State Road No. 33 led by Frankfurt ( Oder) to the Saxon city of Leipzig. There the Prussian state highway No. 69, Leipzig and Weissenfels association began. In Weissenfels this road led to the Prussian State Road No. 66, which resulted from Halle to Weimar.

In the original numbering in 1932 ended the then highway 87 ( FVS 87), renamed in 1934 in National Highway 87 (R 87), at the former highway 7 (later National Highway 7) in Umpferstedt ( between Jena and Weimar). 1961, now back off highway 87 road was called (but abbreviated F 87 ) extended from Umpferstedt to Ilmenau.

Substitutions

Between Bad Berka and the junction of the Federal Highway Apolda 4, the section was downgraded in 2007 to county road. The last piece between the AS Ilmenau Ilmenau -Ost and the place was in 2013 downgraded to the highway.

Further plans

Since 1996, the federal highway is planned 87n of Meiningen to Fulda, which is classified as urgent requirement in the Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan 2003. A connection to the ending in Ilmenau B 87, it will not happen.

In the north- east of Leipzig and in dipping the B to be moved 87. The new route will branch off before diving and encounter at the junction Leipzig -Mitte on the A 14, B 2 and B 184.

In summer 2009, it was announced via the print media the beginning of the regional planning process to rebuild the B 87n between diving and hurry castle. The new route is to run with a four-lane expansion of Highway character by the terminal moraine of the Parthe. After announcement, there were protests from environmental groups and local residents.

In the 1990s, it was planned that the planned as Federal Motorway 16 Leipzig- Lausitz- axis, the B should be replaced 87. After these plans were discarded granted to end of August 2011 the long-planned expansion of B 87 between the Highway 14 and Torgau on ropes castle with four lanes also a rejection. The Federal Transport Infrastructure Plan provides henceforth only in the section BAB 14 - Eilenburg need for a four-lane expansion, between hurry Castle and Torgau is a three-lane B 87 sufficient. The local politics expressed mostly negative. There was also agreement on the other hand from Eilenburger Mayor Hubertus Wacker, who called for an urgent start of construction. This can now be done before 2015 for this section.

Currently (2011) Plans are for the bypasses Bad Kösen, Lubben and Naumburg ( Saale) in the course of this, the B 87 B 87 to be realigned between Taugwitz and Wethau. The Saaletal would be spanned between Großheringen and Saaleck by an approximately 1200 m long bridge up to 60 m high bridge piers. In the course of planning, the question was not examined the extent to which such consequences for the planned memorial area of the World Heritage Naumburg Saale valley. A consultation with ICOMOS and UNESCO did not take place.
