Byron Dorgan

Byron Leslie Dorgan ( born May 14, 1942 in Dickinson, North Dakota ) is an American politician of the Democratic Party.

Life

Byron Dorgan grew up in Regent in Hettinger County. He attended the local high school and reached in 1964 a bachelor's degree at the University of North Dakota. He received in 1966 from the University of Denver the master.

Dorgan was since 1992 a United States Senator for the state of North Dakota. Previously, he was from 1981 to 1992 deputy in the U.S. House of Representatives. In the Senate, he faces since 2007 the Committee on Indian Affairs. He was last re-elected in 2004 with a vote share of 68 percent to Republican Mike Liffrig. In January 2010, Dorgan announced that he would not re-apply at the polls in November of the same year to his mandate; so he resigned from the Senate on January 3, 2011.

Dorgan in 2006 published the book Take This Job and Ship It: How Corporate Greed and Brain- Dead Politics Are Selling Out America. He is married to his second wife Kimberly Olson; they have two children. From his first marriage Dorgan has also two children. Dorgan lives with his family in Bismarck. He is a member of the Lutheran Church.
