Castelleone di Suasa

Castelleone is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 1718 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ancona in the Marche. The municipality is situated approximately 43 km west of Ancona on the Cesano and directly borders the province of Pesaro and Urbino.

History

The municipality is the ancient Roman city Suasa. On a small hill area located the area covered about 0.1 square kilometers and was the third century BC with the battle of Sentinum part of the Roman sphere of influence. On the Ager Gallicus this Roman settlement enjoyed from the 1st century BC, influence and power. With the invasion of the Goths 409 AD, the city loses in history. Only the castle from the Middle Ages suggests a new settlement.
