Arcevia

Arcevia is an Italian municipality ( comune ) with 4899 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the province of Ancona in the Marche.

Geography

The community is located about 48 kilometers southwest of Ancona. The municipality belongs to the Comunità montana dell'Esino Frasassi. Through the village flows the Misa.

The districts include Avacelli, Castiglioni, Caudino, Colle Aprico, Conce di Arcevia, Costa, Loretello, Magnadorsa, Montale, Monte Sant'Angelo, Nidastore, Palazzo, Piticchio, Prosano, Ripalta, San Ginesio di Arcevia, San Giovanni Battista, San Pietro in Musio, Apollinare, Santo Stefano and Vado.

The neighboring municipalities are Barbara, Castelleone, Genga, Mergo Montecarotto, Pergola ( PU), Rosora, San Lorenzo in Campo (PU), Sassoferrato, Serra de ' Conti and Serra San Quirico.

History

From the Iron Age, a Gallic necropolis has been preserved. Arcevia first appears in records on with its original name Rocca Contrada in 1065. 1817 was the village then city rights and her new name Arcevia.

Traffic

With the neighboring municipality of Sassoferrato is there a common station on the route from Pergola to Fabriano. Through the town, the former State Road 360 leads Arceviese (now provincial road ) from Senigallia to Scheggia e Pascelupo.
