Ostra, Marche

Ostra is a municipality with 6780 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian province of Ancona, 35 km from Ancona.

The place was originally called Montalboddo, but was renamed in 1881 in Ostra after the ancient Roman settlement in the neighboring municipality of Ostra Vetere. In the 12th century Ostra 1790 was declared (as Montalboddo ) a free commune and town.

The landscape is typical Italian wine country and dominated by agriculture.

Mayor was several years Lorenzo Cioccolanti; since the local elections in June 2009 Massimo Olivetti 's mayor.

The districts are casine, Pianello and Vaccarile.
