Monterado

Monterado is a municipality with 2147 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012) in the Italian region Marche, in the Province of Ancona.

Location

Monterado situated about ten kilometers inland on the height of the Adriatic coastal town Marotta between the towns of Fano and Senigallia in the north to the south.

The nearby towns are Castel Colonna, Corinaldo, Mondolfo (PU), Monte Porzio (PU) and San Costanzo ( PU).

History

Monterado was founded on July 13, 1267. At that time was abbot of St. Albertino degli Ubaldini from the nearby monastery Fonte Avellana residents of the local Fràctula (now Francavilla di Castel Colonna ) permission, a new castle on a mountain named " Monterado " to start.
