Castelnuovo Rangone

Castelnuovo Rangone is a northern Italian municipality ( comune ) with 14,329 inhabitants (as of 31 December 2012) in the Province of Modena in the Emilia- Romagna. The municipality is situated approximately 13 kilometers south-southeast of Modena and about 32 km west- northwest of Bologna. With the communities Castelvetro di Modena, Savignano sul Panaro, Spilamberto Vignola and it forms the Unione Terre di Castelli.

History

Castelnuovo Rangone is first documented in 1025 mentioned in a deed of gift of Ingone, Bishop of Asti. In the late 14th century the Marquis of Ferrara enfeoffed the family Rangoni with the lands.

Castelnuovo Rangone maintains a partnership with the Swiss municipality in the canton of Aargau Suhr.

Economy and Transport

Castelnuovo Rangone is an important location of the (pig ) meat industry. To the north runs the Autostrada A1 from Milan coming towards the Adriatic Sea.
