Clásica de San Sebastián

The Clasica San Sebastián is a cycling - day race, which takes place around the city of San Sebastián in the Basque Country since 1981, every year in August. The race was until 2004 part of the comprehensive ten race bike World Cup. After its abolition since 2005 it belonged to the newly introduced UCI ProTour, a series of the most important bike race of the year. Since 2011, the race is part of the follow-up series UCI World Tour. The winner of the race receives a trophy a typical for the region Txapela.

The race leads through very hilly terrain and is traditionally 227 km long. Here are six climbs to overcome, a category 1, three in category 2 and two Category 3 The decision often falls on the penultimate mountain, the Jaizkibel (category 1), about 30 kilometers from the finish. From the last mountain, the Alto de Gurutze (category 3), there are still 15 kilometers to the finish.
