Colin Shields

Colin Shields ( born January 27, 1980 in Glasgow, Scotland ) is a British ice hockey player who is currently again at the Belfast Giants in the Elite Ice Hockey League contract. His cousin Stephen Murphy is also a professional hockey player.

Career

Colin Shields began his career as a hockey player with the Paisley Pirates, for their first team, he was already the age of 15 in the 1994/95 season in four games in the British Hockey League active. From 1998 to 2000 he played for the Cleveland Barons in the U.S. Junior League North American Hockey League. There, the Centre was in its second year, top scorer and best scorers in the league, after which he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft in 2000 in the sixth round as a total of 195 players from the Philadelphia Flyers, for whom he never played, however. Instead, he attended from 2000 to 2004, the University of Maine, for their hockey team he played in parallel in the Hockey East and with whom he 2004 Hockey East Championship won. He also received numerous individual awards during this period.

In the season 2004/ 05 Shields played for the San Diego Gulls, Atlantic City Boardwalk Bullies and Greenville Grrrowl in the ECHL. He spent the following season in his native England at the Belfast Giants of the Elite Ice Hockey League. With the team he immediately won the EIHL championship. Then he returned to North America where he stood for the Fresno Falcons and Idaho Steelheads in the ECHL in the 2006/07 season on the ice. After a year at the Newcastle Vipers of the EIHL, the Briton 2008 to 2011 played again for the Belfast Giants. With his team he won the 2010 playoff championship of the EIHL. He himself played a key role in this success, and was elected team player of the year in the league and their first All-Star. On October 2, 2010 he was one of a selection of the best EIHL players who competed in a friendly game against the Boston Bruins of the National Hockey League.

The 2011/12 season spent at Shields HC Morzine -Avoriaz in the French Ligue Magnus. Then he signed a contract with the Sheffield Steelers in the EIHL, but changed already during the current season on the Belfast Giants.

Internationally

For the UK, Shields took part in the U20 Junior C World Championships in 1997 and 2000 at the junior level. In the senior level, he stood in the squad of his country at the World Championships Division I in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. It was in 2012 with three goals and four assists third-best scorer after his compatriot Robert Dowd and the Austrian Manuel Latusa. In addition, Shields took part in the Olympic qualification for the Vancouver Games 2010 in Sochi in 2014 for the UK.
