Csongrád County (former)

The Csongrád ( German and county Tschongrad; Vármegye Csongrád Hungarian, Serbian Čongrad / Чонград, Latin comitatus Chongradiensis ) was an administrative unit ( county, county ) in the Kingdom of Hungary. Today, most of the south-eastern Hungary located ( there in today's Csongrád ), a small part of the place is Horgoš in Vojvodina in Serbia today.

Location

The county bordered on the counties Pest - Pilis - Solt -Kiskun, Jasz -Nagykun -Szolnok, Békés, Csanád, Torontal and Bács- Bodrog and was drained by the river Tisza.

History

The county was established quite early in the 11th century. During the Turkish wars in the 16th century it was occupied by the Ottomans and was retaken until the 17th century again through the Habsburg Empire. After the end of World War I a small part of the south came to the city Horgoš to the newly formed Kingdom of Serbs, Croats and Slovenes. The rest of the remaining portion in Hungary remained within its borders exist to large Komitatsreform 1950.
