Czech Pirate Party

Česká strana pirátská (CPs, short name: Piráti, German: Czech Pirate Party ) is a political party in the Czech Republic.

History

Based on the Swedish Piratpartiet early 2009, the founding of the party was prepared. After reaching the required number of signatures Česká strana pirátská is officially registered as a party since 17 June 2009.

Česká strana pirátská took in May 2010 for the first time participate in the elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Czech Parliament. Originally, the elections were already provided for October 2009. Overall, the party received 42,323 votes, or 0.8%.

On 17 October 2010, the party successfully participated in the municipal elections. In Štěpánkovice the party scored 13.1% and won two seats on the City Council; In Hostouň the party achieved 9.3% of the votes and won one seat

In the elections to the regional councils of 12-13. October 2012, the party received 1.41 to 3.03 %, the national average is 2.19%. In the concurrent Senate by-election nominated by the pirates and CPS, KDU- CSL and Strana zelených supported candidate Libor Michálek was 24.3 %, the highest number of votes and moved to the ballot on 19-20. October 2012 a. In the runoff Michalek was elected with 74.4 % of the vote for senator.

International connections

The CPS is a voting member of the Pirate Parties International ( PPI), the International World Federation of Pirate Parties. In March 2011, Marcel Kolaja, a member of the CPS, voted one of the two co- presidents of the PPI.
