Geography
Geographical Location
Dahlem is located on the western edge of the Natural Park of the Elbe Valley. The community belongs to the Samtgemeinde Dahl castle, which has its administrative headquarters in the spots Dahl castle.

History
Incorporations
On March 1, 1974, the municipalities Harmstorf and Köstorf were incorporated.
Origin of the name
Old names of Dahlem 1330-1352 Dalem, 1355 and 1380 Dalem Dalem. There are two ways of interpretation of the name. Either Dahlem is due to a Slavic name or it means " valley " pasture "(from" Dal -ham "). Dahlem is the easiest to explain with " settlement in the valley " ( " Dal -hem ").

The municipality is part of the Dahlem Parliament Constituency 48 Elbe and the Bundestag constituency 38 Lüchow -Dannenberg - Lüneburg.

Education
Landerziehungsheim school Marienau
In the district of Dahlem Marienau is founded in 1923 by the Jewish education reformers Max Bondy Landerziehungsheim school Marienau.
