Dampierre-lès-Conflans

Dampierre- lès- Conflans is a commune in Haute -Saône in the Franche -Comté.

Geography

Dampierre- lès- Conflans situated at an altitude of 302 m above sea level, 8 km southwest of Saint -Loup- sur- Semouse and about 25 km north of the town of Vesoul (air line). The village is located in the northern part of the department, on a hill west of the valley of Planey, on the eastern slopes of Mont d' Olivette.

The area of ​​10:37 km ² municipal area comprises a section in the rolling countryside of the north of the valley of the Lanterne. The central part of the area is occupied by a running in east-west direction of ridges, which is on average 300 m. With 328 m is reached on the Mont d' Olivette west of the village is the highest elevation of Dampierre- lès- Conflans. In geological- tectonic terms, the ridge consists of an alternation of sandy- marly and calcareous sediments that were deposited during the Lias ( Lower Jurassic ). In some places, is also evident limestone of Middle Triassic.

To the north and east, the height falls relatively steeply to the adjacent valleys of Ruisseau de Cou and Planey. The latter flows through a wide Alluvialniederung, which is on average 230 m and has a maximum width of one kilometer. In Varigney it flows into the Semouse which marks the south-eastern border on a short section. The southern boundary runs along its right-hand tributary Ruisseau du Vass. At Dampierre- lès- Conflans the settlement Varigney (231 m) is in the flood plain at the confluence of Planey and Semouse. Neighboring communities of Dampierre- lès- Conflans are Jasney in the north, and Plainemont Briaucourt in the east, Conflans -sur- Lanterne, Bassigney and Bourguignon- lès- Conflans in the south and Saint- Remy and Melincourt in the West.

History

Is first mentioned Dampierre in 1176 as part of a donation to the monastery Clairefontaine. In the Middle Ages the village belonged to castellany Conflans, which was placed under the Barrois and thus formed an enclave in the Franche-Comté. During the Thirty Years' War Dampierre in 1636 by Swedish troops completely destroyed and probably built up until the beginning of the 18th century to the present place again. In the hamlet Varigney existed until the 18th century blast furnace, then a foundry. Today Dampierre- lès- Conflans is a member of the comprehensive 20 villages municipal association Communauté de communes des Belles Sources.

Attractions

The church of Saint -Pierre -et -Paul was built around 1780 and has furnishings from the 18th century and a pulpit in the Louis XV style. The village is characterized by numerous houses from the 18th century, showing the traditional Lorraine style. In Varigney is the chapel of Saint- Eloi.

Population

With 263 inhabitants (2007 ) Dampierre- lès- Conflans is one of the small towns in the Haute- Saône. After the population had decreased significantly in the first half of the 20th century (1881 787 persons were still counted ), a slight population growth was recorded since the early 1980s again.

Economy and infrastructure

Dampierre- lès- Conflans was until well into the 20th century a predominantly by agriculture (crops, orchards and livestock ) and forestry embossed village. The water power of the Ruisseau de Cou was formerly used for the operation of a mill. In Varigney there was a foundry, which characterized the economic life of the village. The village is situated away from the larger passage axes on a secondary road, leading from Conflans -sur- Lanterne after Anchenoncourt. Further road links exist with Jasney and Bassigney.
