Daniel Lee " Dan " Dierdorf ( born June 29, 1949 in Canton, Ohio, USA) is an American former American football player. He has played as an offensive tackle in the National Football League ( NFL) with the St. Louis Cardinals and now works as a sports presenter.

Youth

Dan Dierdorf was born the son of Evelyn and John Dierdorf, Canton. His ancestors came from Germany. He attended in his hometown high school. At the age of 13 years, the Pro Football Hall of Fame was opened in the presence of John and Dan Dierdorf, Canton. The ceremony impressed him so much that he decided to pursue a career as a professional football player to aim. Dierdorf has already played in high school American football. After his graduation, he was courted by numerous colleges. He accepted a scholarship from the University of Michigan.

Playing career

College career

Daniel Dierdorf was used by the Collegemannschaftf the University of Michigan on the position of an offensive tackle. In 1969, he won the championship with the Michigan Wolverines in the Big Ten Conference. The title could repeat the team in 1971. 1970 and 1971, he managed to move his team each in the Rose Bowl. Both games, however, were lost. Because of his athletic achievements, he was elected in 1970 to the All- American, played in 1970 in two select games and 1971 college All- Star Game. His College also awarded him in the years 1968, 1969 and 1970.

Professional career

The performances of Dierdorf also convinced the scouts of the NFL. In 1971 he was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the second round to 43rd. In his rookie year he was game initially used by the Cardinals to the position of Guards and was responsible for the protection of quarterback Jim Hart. The next game ran very successful year for the Cardinals. It was only in 1974, the St. Louis team was able to move under the leadership of Head Coach Don Coryell for the first time in the Divisional play -offs, where they, however, prematurely failed due to the Minnesota Vikings with 30:14. Career as a sports presenter

Dan Dierdorf first worked on in the organization of the Cardinals. In 1984 he received a contract with CBS, where he was involved as an analyst on the television broadcast of games from the NFL. In 1987 he moved to ABC and transferred there, among others, along with Al Michaels, Lynn Swann and Boomer Esiason, the Monday -night football games. He lives with his wife and four children in St. Louis.

Honors

Daniel Dierdorf played six times in the Pro Bowl, the season final game of the best players of the season. He was six times elected to the All- Pro. He is a member of the St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame, the College Football Hall of Fame, the Pro Football Hall of Fame, in the NFL 1970s All- Decade Team, the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, and in the Michigan Sports Hall of Fame and the University of Michigan Hall of Fame. The Cardinals honor him on the Arizona Cardinals Ring of Honor The city of St. Louis honors him on the St. Louis Football Ring of Fame and a star on the St. Louis Walk of Fame. The city of Springfield has set up a bust of Dierdorf.
