David Ellett

David George John Ellett ( born March 30, 1964 in Cleveland, Ohio ) is a retired Canadian professional ice hockey player who during his playing career for the Winnipeg Jets, Toronto Maple Leafs, New Jersey Devils, Boston Bruins and St. Louis Blues in the National Hockey League played at the position of the defender. His father Bob Ellett was also a professional hockey player and among others in the American Hockey League for the Cleveland Barons and Rochester Americans active.

Career

David Ellett began his career in 1981 at the Ottawa Jr. Senators in the Central Junior A Hockey League, before moving in 1982 Hockey Team Bowling Green State University in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. In 83 games he reached 71 points and received 130 penalty minutes. Ellett was selected at the NHL Entry Draft in 1982 by the Winnipeg Jets in the fourth round to 75th position. In the 1984/85 season he ran in 88 NHL games for the Jets and collected 44 points scorer. In the play-offs were in the first round of the Calgary Flames defeated before in the second round in four games against the Edmonton Oilers followed by the in-form Wayne Gretzky, Jari Kurri and Paul Coffey departure from the competition. Two years later Ellett scored again with the Jets in the second playoff round to the Oilers and lost again the series in four games without a single win. In the season 1987/88 noted the defensive players with 61 points and 116 penalty minutes in his career records. In the playoffs, Ellett failed with the Jets again against the Edmonton Oilers, who won their fourth Stanley Cup in five years.

Although he was born in the United States and was appointed to the U.S. squad to host the Canada Cup in 1987, he never completed a full international for the U.S. ice hockey team. Although two years later, the former head coach of the U.S. Selection Bob Johnson insisted that Ellett for the U.S. 've aground, this nevertheless opted for the Canadian selection. In the Ice Hockey World Championship 1989, he completed his first and only tournament with the Canadians. In ten games get him four goals and six points scorer, he also received 14 penalty minutes.
