Geography
Emlichheim ( Low German Emmelkamp ) is located near the German -Dutch border. The town is bordered by the river Vecht and the north by the Coevorden - Piccardie Channel to the south. The municipality is the administrative seat of the velvet municipality Emlichheim with communities Emlichheim, Hoogstede, Laar and rings. In recent years Emlichheim experienced massive growth, mainly due to the influx of Dutch national.
History
Emlichheim exists at least since the time of Charlemagne. In a document from the year 1312, the place is mentioned under the name Emminchem. In colloquial dialect to this day the name Emmelkamp is common. The High German name Emlichheim derived from the original Low German forms Emminchem or Emmen home. Since the time of the Thirty Years War, the German high in the county of Bentheim was used for official documents. Officials said the name from Low German used until then was translated into German as high Emlichheim. Due to the close cultural and economic ties with the Netherlands was, especially in the lower county, since the 16th century, the Dutch, the common transport, churches and written language. Until the twenties of the 19th century Dutch was used as a first language in the schools of the county. The vernacular was the local Low German dialect, which was heavily influenced by the Dutch written language. In the local vernacular sat down with time by the shape Emlenkamp for Emlichheim. About the vernacular this form then passed in the Dutch case. In practice, it came so that henceforth the High German of Emlichheim is the speech in Dutch-language documents of the 16th - 19th Century of Emlenkamp.

Economy
In Emlichheim the Emsland Group is established with her daughter Emsland-Starke as the largest European starch producer. There are here about a million tons of potatoes, which are delivered from a radius of about 150 km, processed. Emsland-Starke is not only the largest employer of Emlichheim, but also an important factor for existence of the entire region.
About eight kilometers west of Emlichheim is within the municipality Laar and the adjacent Dutch municipality of Coevorden, the cross-border industrial zone Euro Park. There is a large freight or container terminal with the label Euro Terminal, which is operated by a subsidiary of Bentheim railway and Dutch partner companies. A custom built by order of Bentheim railroad report from 2009 recommended that the Euro Park the status of a freight village ( LVN ) to give, which is now also done. Furthermore, there is the Euro Park, among other things built and controversial from a private Dutch investor incinerator Emlichheim.
Another economic factor of the velvet municipality Emlichheim is the plastics processing industry. These include Synco in Emlichheim and Bekuplast and Ringoplast in Neugnadenfeld.
Traffic
Emlichheim is on the main road 403 Ochtrup about Nordhorn to Coevorden in the Netherlands.
The place is connected to the rail network of Bentheim railroad. There is a very lively freight; the rail passenger transport ( regional rail ) was set in 1974. The plan is to reactivate the route Coevorden - Emlichheim North Horn-Bad Bentheim for the regional rail. In a first step, it is intended to reactivate the route between New House and Bad Bentheim.
Every day, at every hour accessible buses with low floor of the transport association County of Bentheim (VGB ) of Emlichheim about Uelsen, New house and Nordhorn to Bad Bentheim and vice versa ( regional bus line 100). In Bad Bentheim made connections to railways that operate regularly in Osnabrück, Hannover and Berlin as well as in the direction of Hengelo and Amsterdam. Moreover, the VGB operates a Rufbusnetz, the Emlichheim both with the community Laar ( Rufbuslinie 11) as well as with the communities rings and Hoogstede ( Rufbuslinie 12). From spring to autumn run at certain times of buses on the line Emlichheim North Horn-Bad Bentheim bike trailer with ( Fietsenbus ).
Education
In Emlichheim there is a reason, a main and a secondary school, a high school for secondary school and a special school. The more schooling takes place either in New House ( Lise -Meitner -Gymnasium ) or in the county town of Nordhorn. In Nordhorn students are general education schools, technical schools and vocational schools.
Structures
The Reformed Church Emlichheim is at the drop of a sandy Geest level to the Vechtewiesen, was built on scheit quite different-sized blocks hewn from Bentheim sandstone, the tower with its three mutually remote storeys is built out without Westand Association of the church. The ship, with wide, pointed arch straps and cross vaults in brick, which indicate three Hoche at the end of the 15th century. The oldest of the four bells is dated 1487, without mentioning the caster.
In addition Emlichheim received a new church 1952-1954. The " Church of Peace " was designed and built by Max H. Berling from Osnabrück as truss construction. As one of the first built in the postwar period church buildings it is now a listed building.
Also in the 1950s came as a youth recreational facility the borderland home.
In the main street 24 is the town hall of the place, a modern three-storey commercial buildings.
