... Famous Last Words ... is the seventh studio album by British Pop-/Rockband Supertramp. As with the previous live album Paris (1980 ), the group acted in absorbing the disc in its classic lineup - for the sixth and last time in the band's career. In keeping with the title, it is the last album with founding member Roger Hodgson. The record was released in October 1982 and was very successful.

Description

For the recording of the album ... Famous Last Words ..., the date last studio album that the band in their classic line-up - grossed Rick Davies, John Helliwell, Roger Hodgson, Bob Siebenberg and Dougie Thomson, Supertramp were first supported by guest musicians: Claire Diament controlled the background vocals to Hodgson's song Do not Leave Me Now at the sisters Ann Wilson and Nancy Wilson of the American rock band Heart sang at Put on Your Old Brown Shoes and C'est le Bon. In addition, a group of children sang in the final part of It's Raining Again the English nursery rhyme It's Raining, It's Pouring.

All songs were written by Davies and Hodgson, who sang their works each self. The best-known songs of the album are It's Raining Again, which reached as single release in many countries of the world top ten status, as well as the second single from My Kind Of Lady, which advanced all the way to number 31 on the U.S. charts. Other singles were the songs Crazy, Do not Leave Me Now and Waiting So Long.

... Famous Last Words ... was taken under adverse circumstances: After a self-imposed more than two -year hiatus, the band came back together. During the 16 -month recording period saw the singer and songwriter Davies and Hodgson, that they had grown apart musically. One contentious issue was both the musical orientation and thus the selection of the songs, which should include the album. Hodgson had written in the meantime more than 70 songs. Many of his more pop-oriented songs failed to Davies ' veto. This sought a less commercial production. Davies ' 16 ½ -minute epic song Brother Where You Bound, a then arisen work on baiting in California, came across Hodgson resistance; Therefore, it appeared only on the follow-up album Brother Where You Bound ( 1985), which was published after Hodgson's departure, and without whose cooperation.

Roger Hodgson felt the recording time as " traumatic " and the result as a " lowest common denominator " and " unsatisfactory ", as compared to 1983 Music Express / Sounds remarked. The split between the once creatively complementary songwriter duo was also on the way, as the album was recorded. Large parts of it were recorded and mixed in Hodgson's Unicorn Studios in Nevada City, California. Davies vocals, however, were taken separately in its own The Backyard Studios in Encino, California.

The album's success led to an extended world tour (July- September 1983), on the Supertramp filled many stages. Legendary is the broadcast by ZDF in September 1983 concert in Munich, directed by Roger Hodgson Supertramp announced his farewell. For the tour, although it appeared no live music, but there is a large part of the DVD The Story So Far from concert recordings from 1983, recorded in Toronto and Munich.

About 2 ½ years after ... Famous Last Words ... appeared - recorded without Hodgson - the album Brother Where You Bound.
