The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music are a number of Renaissance and Baroque concerts and opera performances and courses, which are held every August since 1976 in Innsbruck.

History

Innsbruck is a center of early music. During the Renaissance and Baroque masters such as Paul Hofhaimer, Heinrich Isaac and Pietro Antonio Cesti stayed as a court musician in the alpine town. There were magnificent opera performances take place in the first free-standing theater in the German language area. The former Innsbruck instrumental ensemble later formed the main cast of the famous pre-classical Mannheim orchestra. Middle of the 20th century continued the tradition and taken care of early music in splendid halls and churches again. 1963, to celebrate the 600 -year affiliation Tyrol to Austria, initiated the Innsbruck musician Ulf Otto ( 1907-1993 ), the first " Ambras Palace Concert ".
