Festwochen der Alten Musik
The Innsbruck Festival of Early Music are a number of Renaissance and Baroque concerts and opera performances and courses, which are held every August since 1976 in Innsbruck.
History
Innsbruck is a center of early music. During the Renaissance and Baroque masters such as Paul Hofhaimer, Heinrich Isaac and Pietro Antonio Cesti stayed as a court musician in the alpine town. There were magnificent opera performances take place in the first free-standing theater in the German language area. The former Innsbruck instrumental ensemble later formed the main cast of the famous pre-classical Mannheim orchestra. Middle of the 20th century continued the tradition and taken care of early music in splendid halls and churches again. 1963, to celebrate the 600 -year affiliation Tyrol to Austria, initiated the Innsbruck musician Ulf Otto ( 1907-1993 ), the first " Ambras Palace Concert ".
Among the conductors occurring here were Giovanni Antonini, Howard Arman, Attilio Cremonesi, Alan Curtis, John Eliot Gardiner, Nikolaus Harnoncourt, Thomas Hengelbrock, René Jacobs, Konrad Junghänel, Sigiswald Kuijken, Hans -Martin Linde, Charles Medlam, Eduard Melkus, Lars Ulrik Mortensen and Jordi Savall. Among the singers are to be mentioned, inter alia, Jennifer Larmore and numerous countertenors, such as René Jacobs, Derek Lee Ragin and Dominique Visse.
Since 2010, Alessandro De Marchi artistic director of the Innsbruck Festival of Early Music, Christoph von Bernuth their opera director.
