Forlì Airport ( Italian: Aeroporto di Forlì " Luigi Ridolfi " ) is an Italian airport to Forli. He is next to Bologna, Parma and Rimini, one of the four airports of the Emilia -Romagna region.

Location and Connections

The airport is located around 60 kilometers south-east of the regional capital of Bologna and about 20 kilometers west of the Adriatic coast.

The airport is located one mile southeast of the center of Forlì. Line buses run five to seven times daily between the airport and the main railway station in the city center. Forli is located on the railway line Bologna -Ancona and running parallel to A14 Adriatic Motorway and the Via Emilia ( SS9 ). Buses connect the airport with the resorts of Cervia and Cesenatico.

Airlines and destinations

The airport was until 2011 a base of the Italian airline Wind Jet. Even Ryanair was a major user. Both companies, however, are moved to the approximately 40 kilometers southeast of Rimini airport. On March 31, 2013, then the last airline Wizz Air also moved back. Since then, Forlì has no scheduled connection more to international air traffic (as of September 2013).

Forlì Airport is in a bitter rivalry with the nearby Rimini Airport for years. For the catchment area of the two airports on the Adriatic Coast of Emilia -Romagna, an airport would suffice. However, none of the two airport operators want to come to terms with the closure of the airport. Lately Forlì has opposite the airport Bologna and Rimini in the northwest to the southeast lost market share. Despite plans for synergic use and eventual concentration on the air cargo segment the airport's future is uncertain.

Others

The airport and the city of Forlì are for a long time location of training facilities for the aviation area and location of the 13 helicopter unit of the Carabinieri (13 ° nucleo elicotteristi dell'Arma dei Carabinieri ).

1934 here the Collegio Aeronautico was founded, an educational institution of the fascist youth organization. In 1968, in Forlì one of the few Italian technical schools with training towards aviation sector ( Istituto Tecnico Aeronautico ). At the airport there are, among others, a flight school and an academy at the aspiring air traffic controllers of the Italian air traffic control company ENAV SpA are formed.

The airport is named after the 1894 born in Forli Luigi Ridolfi bomber pilots, who as a civilian test pilot at Milan died 1919.
