Frederic Hale Parkhurst

Frederick Hale Parkhurst ( born November 5, 1864 in Bangor, Maine; † January 31, 1921 in Augusta, Maine ) was an American politician and in 1921, Governor of the State of Maine.

Early years

Frederick Parkhurst attended the local schools of his home and then studied at the Columbian Law School in Washington DC Jura. After his graduation and admission to the bar he began to work in Bangor in this profession. At the same time he ran a leather shop with his father.

Political career

Since 1893 Parkhurst was politically active. This year he was a town councilor Bangor. Between 1895 and 1896, and again from 1899 to 1902 he sat as an MP in the House of Representatives from Maine. In the years 1901-1904 he was the senior staff of Governor John Fremont Hill. Between 1907 and 1908 he was a member of the State Senate. In 1920 he was elected as a candidate of the Republican Party as the new governor of Maine, where he clearly asserted itself with 66:34 percent of the vote to Democrat Bertrand G. McIntire. He took up his new post on January 5, 1921 and died unexpectedly on 31 January of the same year. He had one of the shortest governorship times in the history of the State of Maine. Frederick Parkhurst was married twice and had four children.
