Giorgos Alkaios

Giorgos Alkeos (Greek Γιώργος Αλκαίος [ ʝɔrɣɔs alk ɛɔs ʲ ]; Also: Yorgos Alkaios, born December 24, 1971 in Athens ) is a Greek pop musician. His father is also in the 1990s in Greece very successful singer Giannis Vassiliou.

Giorgos Alkeos arrived in Athens, as a child of a Portuguese mother and a Greek father to the world. He spent the first 3 years of life in Boston, USA. With 3 years, he was, after the separation of the parents, brought by the father returned to Greece and grew up in his grandmother's house on Chalandri.

His career began in 1989 with an appearance in a Greek talent show. After a short period in which he worked as an actor, he devoted himself entirely to music. For his solo career, he chose the stage name Alkeos. Success was his lot with his first single Ti Ti.

His work is characterized mainly by the combination of classical Greek elements with modern pop music.

Giorgos Alkeos has also written numerous titles for other artists. Among the internationally successful piece Opa Opa, by many artists ( eg, Antique, Despina Vandi, Notis Sfakianakis ) is sung. The Swedish- Greek group Antique reached # 2 on the European Top Ten with Opa Opa.

His title Sirmatoplegma been selected by the Turkish football team Galatasaray as an anthem.

When Euro Vision Song Contest 2010 Alkaios represented Greece along with several other singers under the name Giorgos Alkeos & Friends with the song Opa!. In the final, the formation came in eighth place.
