Groß Düben

Great Duben, Upper Sorbian Dźěwin, is a municipality in the district Görlitz in Saxony. It belongs to the administrative community loop and since 1999 from the two places large Duben and Halbendorf.

Geography

The town of Gross Duben located in the northern part of the district in a wooded area on the northwestern edge of the Muskauer Heath. It is located seven kilometers north-west of white water and 14 kilometers east of Spremberg. Federal highway 156, which connects these two cities, runs along the northern boundary of the municipality. Passing through the municipality the now disused railway line White Water Forest.

The place United Duben projects, a promontory similar, in the Brandenburg Spree- Neisse (SPN) into it. 3.5 km east of Great Duben is Klein Duben, three kilometers to the west is Lieskau. Along this community, district, and state border is also the boundary between the Upper and Lower Lusatia.

In the north the municipality borders on Felixsee United Duben. They are followed in a clockwise direction: Tschernitz (NO), Jämlitz small Duben (O), Gablenzgasse (O ), white water ( S), Trebendorf (SW), loop ( W) and Spremberg (NW).

History

As early as the Bronze Age, the area was settled, as proved by archeological findings. The re-colonization occurred in the period of the second German Ostsiedlung. The previously oldest documented mention was made in 1464 in the United Düben Urbarium the registrar Muskau.

The name " Duben " derives directly from Upper Sorbian name Dźěwin from, the suffix serves to distinguish it from the neighboring small Duben ( Lower Źěwink with diminutive -k). Names Researchers are not sure about the origin of the name. The name may be derived from a personal name ( " City of a Deva " ) or by Deva ' ( Virgin ) or, dźowka ' ( daughter) come.

During the Thirty Years War, the palatial manor house was destroyed in the United Duben. In 1836 the United Duben got a school.

Great Duben 1995 was a founding member of the administrative community loop and closed on 1 January 1999 the municipality Halbendorf together.

In March 2009, laid the Ortschaftsrat Halbendorf in a council meeting before a letter, in which the will is expressed to be umgemeindet the adjacent loop of large Duben.
