Großdubrau

Grossdubrau, Upper Sorbian Wulka Dubrawa, is a place and the associated community north of Bautzen in eastern Saxony. It belongs to Upper Lusatia and belongs officially to the settlement area of ​​the Sorbs.

The place name derives from the Sorbian word dub for " oak " from. Dubrawa with " oak" to translate.

Geography

The place Grossdubrau is located about twelve kilometers north of the major district town of Bautzen on a hill west of the Spree valley at about 200 meters above sea level. NN. It is a gravel terrace as a remnant of the Pleistocene river course of the Elbe. All nearby places are lower between 20 and 40 meters. The immediate area is forested and predominantly wavy. Forests make up nearly one-third of the municipal area. A further 7 % attributable to the numerous ponds and lakes. Large parts of the community are part of the biosphere reserve Upper Lusatian Heath and Pond Landscape.

Grossdubrau itself is a street Angersdorf with extensions especially in the north.

History

The settlement was first mentioned in 1343 as Dubra documented. Until 1628 the manorial system was the Bautzener cathedral chapter; around 1630, a large Dubrauer manor was first mentioned.

For his statistics on the Sorbian population in Upper Lusatia Arnost Muka determined in the eighties of the 19th century had a total population of 227 inhabitants; which were 185 Sorbs ( 81%) and 42 German. As everywhere in the evangelical part of the Sorbian settlement area, the proportion of Sorbian - speakers has since been lost; particularly favored in Grossdubrau by industrial development and the consequent influx of workers.

Already at the beginning of the 19th century was mined in pits around the place especially coal and clay or kaolin. From about 1890 experienced Grossdubrau by expanding the mine sites in the immediate vicinity ( Margaret hut, Adolfshütte ) and in 1906 was connected to the railway line Lobau - Radibor a rapid economic recovery and a sharp population increase. Within twenty years, the population of 248 quadrupled in 1890 to 978 in 1910. Was from the small, predominantly Sorbian Angersdorf a German -dominated industry settlement. 1925 was the place with 1200 inhabitants - the majority Protestant denomination - one of the largest villages of Upper Lusatia. The Margarethe cabin was at that time one of the leading companies in the electro- ceramic sector.

In 1936 the neighboring villages and small Brehmen Dubrau were incorporated.

In 1972 the passenger traffic at Grossdubrau station was set. Soon after the reunification in 1990, the production ended in Margaret hut and thus the history of Great Dubraus as an industrial location. The majority of workers were laid off. In 1998 the railway line and the United Dubrauer station has permanently stopped.

In the municipal reforms of the 1990s, the communities Commerau, Klix, Quatitz and Sdier and the neighboring Crosta to Grossdubrau came.

The local council of Grossdubrau currently consists of 16 members, including three women. The municipal election in 2009 resulted in the following voting or distribution of seats:

The local authority sought a merger with the neighboring community Radibor for the year 2008. On 2 March 2008, aspired by a citizens' initiative referendum was carried out to the community because of this merger. This reflects a considerable majority of large Dubrauer voters against the merger decision, while in Radibor a slim majority voted for the step.

Traffic

Federal highway 156 ( White Water Bautzen ) crosses Sdier and Commerau, while the state road passes 107 ( Niedergurig - Radibor ) at the Bautzen Reservoir by Jeschütz and Quatitz. The remaining districts are connected by local roads. The Bautzen -east of Highway 4 (Dresden - Wrocław) is eight kilometers south of Grossdubrau.

The airport is located east of Klix Grossdubrau near the eponymous district and is mainly used for sailing and motor flight with small machines.

Bus number 104 ( Regiobus ) connects Grossdubrau with Bautzen.

Education and Sports

The community Grossdubrau has a primary school, also is the free high school " Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi " in a resident. The public middle school was closed in 2006.

The sports club " SV 1896 Grossdubrau " is located in the resort. The women's team reached in the 2005/06 season, the first round of the DFB Cup.
