Großpostwitz

Großpostwitz (also Großpostwitz / OL ), Upper Sorbian Budestecy, is a village and the municipality of the same name 6 km southeast of Bautzen in Upper Lusatia in Saxony. It is the seat of the administrative community Großpostwitz - Obergurig.

Geography and transport

Großpostwitz located in the center of the district of Bautzen in a wooded area on the outskirts of Upper Lusatia. The municipality lies on the main road 96 has the Großpostwitz station on a station on the railway line Bautzen- Bad Schandau, the operation was set on the 2004. Through the town flows the river Spree.

The parish is bounded to the north of Bautzen, Kubschütz in the northeast, Cunewalde the southeast, Schirgiswalde - Kirschau in the south and Obergurig in the West.

History

Postwitz was first mentioned in 1331 as Bostewicz documented. The place was probably like many others, from a Slavic settlement. In 1807 is derived from the place name Postwitz the current community name Großpostwitz. In the War of 1813 fought for the place, which is thereby affected.

Even in the second half of the 19th century Großpostwitz was almost completely Sorbian Despite its location on the southern boundary of the Sorbian language. Richard Andree wrote in 1874: "Where so good Slavs have acted as in Postwitz as clergy, as well as the municipality has received quite pure endures, yet she lies on the language border. On July 1, 1950 Ebendörfel was incorporated into the municipality Großpostwitz. On 1 July 1976, the Association of Municipalities Großpostwitz was formed from the communities Eulowitz, Rodewitz, Obergurig and Großpostwitz. Rodewitz is today a district of Kirschau, Obergurig a separate municipality, has entered into with Großpostwitz administrative matters. On 1 January 1999 Eulowitz was in the church Großpostwitz / OL incorporated, but spun with effect from 1 January 2000 again following the judgment of the Saxon Constitutional Court on 5 November 1999. Finally the town was incorporated again on 1 January 2002, this time legally.

Mayoral election in 2007

In the election on September 30, 2007 Incumbent Frank Lehmann was re-elected with 99.2 % of the vote. The turnout was 48.7 %.

Coat of arms

The coat of arms shows the tower of the Protestant Church and the Spree River, which surrounds the town center with the church in a meander. The blazon for this is: " Divided by silver and green; forward a growing up to the upper plate edge black church tower with two arched windows and a round window; behind a siebenbogiger silver wave beams. "

Education

Today Lessing Elementary School opened in the fall of 1929. The new school had become necessary because the school was opened in May 1880 no longer meet the growing numbers of students.
