Guadeloupe national football team

The national football team of Guadeloupe is the national team of the French overseas departments of Guadeloupe.

The National Association guadeloupéenne Ligue de football, a sub- department of the French Football Federation is not a member of the world football governing body FIFA and therefore does not participate in qualifying matches to soccer world championships.

Since 1964, Guadeloupe is a member of CONCACAF continental federation and as such may take part in the tournaments. In addition, the national team in the Coupe de l' Outre- Mer, the competition for national teams from France's overseas territories involved. Here Guadeloupe could place three times so far on rank 3.

History

In 2007, the team failed to qualify for the first time for a larger tournament. The qualification was on the fourth place in the Caribbean Cup 2007. In the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup, the team prevailed with a win against Canada, a draw against Haiti and one defeat against Costa Rica as the third in the group, and subsequently into the quarter-finals. There, the team beat Honduras 2-1 and reached the semi-finals, where they lost 0-1 Mexico.

In the Caribbean Cup 2008, the team reached the third place. Previously, the team lost in the semifinal against Jamaica. In the small final, the team from Guadeloupe won on penalties against Cuba. So you qualified for the CONCACAF Gold Cup in 2009 where the team lost in the quarterfinals of the tournament against Costa Rica 1:5.

In the Caribbean Cup 2010, the team finished second and lost the final against Jamaica in a penalty shootout with 4:5. With this second place, the team for the CONCACAF Gold Cup 2011 in the U.S. skilled.
