Hans Vinjarengen

Hans Vinjarengen ( born August 20, 1905 in Nordre Land, Oppland, † 1 February 1984 in Oslo) was a Norwegian skier who started mainly internationally in the Nordic combined, but also in the sub-disciplines of ski jumping and cross-country skiing.

Career

His first success came Vinjarengen by winning the silver medal in the individual Nordic combined at the Winter Olympic Games in 1928 in St. Moritz. In the same year he exhibited at the Holmenkollbakken in Oslo with 47.5 meters a new hill record, but this was outbid in the same year by his compatriot Alf Andersen. A year later, at the Norwegian Championships 1929 in Kongsberg, he won in a single combination before Johan Grøttumsbråten and Trygve Brodahl his first Norwegian championship. A little later he started at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1929 in Zakopane and won in the individual combination of the world title. The ski jumping he landed from the K90 ski jump in fifth place. A year later, at the Nordic World Ski Championships in Oslo in 1930, he defended his title in singles. He also won the first time the Holmenkollen Ski Festival also the World Cup belonged.

In 1931 Vinjarengen received the Holmenkollen medal together with Ole Stenen. In the same year he won the bronze medal in singles at the Norwegian Championships. At the competition at Holmenkollen he finished third.

At the 1932 Olympics in Lake Placid, he could not defend his silver medal from 1928, but managed behind his countrymen Johan Grøttumsbraaten and Ole Stenen to third place and thus won bronze. He was after the jumping on the silver medal, but came during the subsequent cross-country only in fourth place. At Holmenkollen he finished second a little later. 1933 Vinjarengen won the combination competition in Lahtispelen.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1934 in Sollefteå he won the bronze medal in singles. He first started as a cross-country skier and has been with the 4x10 km relay fourth. Shortly after, he won his second and last national title at the Norwegian Championships 1934 in Porsgrunn.

When the Germans and Wehrmachtsskimeisterschaften from 3 to 13 February 1938 on the hill in the Black Forest Titisee -Neustadt, he became German champion. At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1938 in Lahti, his last international tournament, he won again bronze in singles.

After the end of his active career Vinjarengen worked as a truck driver in Oslo, where he died in 1984. However, he remained active until his death in his home club.
