Trond Einar Elden

Trond Einar Elden ( born February 21, 1970 in Namdalseid ) is a former Norwegian skier, who was an international success in the Nordic combined and cross-country skiing. He is considered one of the best skiers of all time in the nordic combined. 42 victories he was able to win in competitions in cross- section. Better longest time was Bård Jørgen Elden his brother, who came to 62 cross-country victories in the combiners.

Career

Nordic Combined

Elden, the younger brother of the equally successful Skilangläufers and Bård Jørgen Elden Nordic combiner began as a five year old on skis in his hometown Namdalseid the Namdalseid IL. Later he visited with his brother together the Skigymnasium in Steinkjer. His international debut Elden at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1988 Junior in Saalfelden sea. He won with his brother Bård and Jon Andersen the gold medal in the team competition. A short time later, he won in Vang at the Norwegian Championships in 1988 at the team gold medal. At the end of the season 1987/88 he was in Falun his debut in the World Cup Nordic Combined. He won his first World Cup points in 11th straight away.

In January 1989 Elden finally belonged firmly to the national squad and stood by his total of only second World Cup in Schonach as a third party for the first time on the podium. A week later he missed his second podium in fourth just barely in Reit im Winkl. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1989 in Lahti Elden secured against Andrei Dundukow and Trond Arne Bredesen the world title in singles and also won the team competition with his brother and Bredesen the gold medal.

At season's end he twice succeeded in Oslo and Falun consecutive victory at the individual World Cup. He closed the 1988/89 season in sixth place in the World Cup overall standings. At the end of the season discharged Nordic World Ski Championships Junior 1989 in Vang, he won two more gold medals. Also in the Norwegian Championships in 1989 Konnerud and Steinkjer he was entitled in individual and team success.

The 1989/90 season did not go as expected for Elden. So he stood, twice in January and March as third on the podium, but landed often not even in the top ten. Only at the Junior World Championship 1990 in Štrbské Pleso he again won two gold medals. Only for the season 1990/91 he was also in the World Cup way back to the top. In his most successful season, which he finished in third place overall, he won a total of three World Cups and was once ranked second.

After he again started with two good places sixth in Courchevel and Schonach in the 1991/92 season, he was part of the squad for the 1992 Winter Olympic Games in Albertville. Together with Knut Tore Apeland and Fred Børre Lundberg he won the silver medal in the team competition. In single it reached only a ninth place after he had indeed won superior to the cross-country skiing, ski jumping, however, landed only on the rear ranks. During his last World Cup of the season, he was second in Trondheim again on the podium. Only a few weeks earlier, he won silver at the same place at the Norwegian Championships.

In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1993 in Falun, Sweden, he won the individual behind Kenji Ogiwara and his countryman Knut Tore Apeland the bronze medal. With the team behind it handed Japan the silver medal. In the 1993/94 season Elden could achieve top 10 rankings in all World Cup competitions. In the overall standings, it was enough to end up sixth. In the Norwegian Championships in 1994 in Rena again gold with the team. Previously, little was successfully launched at the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, but had to settle for eighth place in the individual. In team competition, he did not belong to the team.

Subsequently, however, succeeded Elden often only with effort to stay on top of the world. He often ended up just outside the top ten. Victories he achieved no more. Also nationally he came as no bronze or silver medals out at the championships. Only at the Norwegian Championships 1997 in Mo i Rana, he landed again with the team at the top of the podium.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 1999 in Ramsau am Dachstein Elden started the sprint and thereby reached the 10th place. With the team he won two days earlier, again silver. In March 2000, he played his last World Cup Nordic Combined in Santa Caterina and reached rank 15 again a World Cup point. The day before he landed in a team - mass start together with Kenneth Braaten and Kristian Hammer again on the third place.

Cross-country skiing

In the 2000 /01 season Elden moved from the Nordic combined cross-country skiing. He was cross-country skiing in Orsa - Continental Cup and ended up in third place also immediately on the podium. In February 2001, Elden could occupy second place in the sprint World Cup in Nove Mesto na Czech Moravě behind compatriot Morten BRORS and stood thus for the first time in the Cross Country World Cup on the podium. At the end of the season, he finished fifth overall in the sprint the overall World Cup. Also in December 2001 Elden succeeded in Salzburg run on the podium. At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, he started for the first time in cross country and won the sprint to the 15th Place. He ended his international racing career in January 2005 with a FIS race in the Granåsen. At national level, his greatest success was the fourth place at the Norwegian Championships 2003 Sjøvegan in sprint cross-country skiing.

After the career

Since 2005, he supported the U.S. national team in nordic combined as a cross- trainer. In 2008 he took over this position at the Norwegians.
