Konrad Winkler (skier)

Konrad Winkler ( born February 17, 1955 in Neuhausen / Erzgeb. ) Is a former German nordic combiner which competed for the German Democratic Republic, and today's trainer.

Winkler was a training partner of Ulrich Wehling and one of the few who could beat that in a major competition ( World Championships 1978 in Lahti ). His first international success was achieved by Winkler at the Nordic Ski World Youth Championship 1974 in Autrans, where he won the gold medal in the individual competition. A year later in Finnish Lieto he succeeded in winning the silver medal in singles. At the Olympic Winter Games in Innsbruck in 1976, he won the bronze medal in the individual 15 km and from the normal hill. He repeated this success at the 1980 Winter Olympics in Lake Placid. Before he could reach his biggest success by winning the gold medal in singles at the Nordic World Ski Championships 1978 in Lahti. The Holmenkollen Ski Festival in Oslo, he finished in 1981 and 1982 in each individual on the 2nd place and won it in 1982 in the season. At the World Championships 1982 in Oslo, he won silver behind again Tom Sandberg and at the inaugural 3 x 5 km relay gold medal.

1990 Konrad Winkler was appointed as the national coach for the Nordic combined, but was replaced in 1992 after disagreements with the nordic combined and then worked as a youth coach. He later worked in Saalfelden ( Austria ). Currently, Winkler has worked as coach of the federal police sports school in Bad Endorf.
