Tapio Nurmela

Tapio Juhani Nurmela ( born January 2, 1975 in Rovaniemi ) is a retired Finnish Nordic skier.

His first success achieved Nurmela, who started for the club Ounasvaaran Hiihtoseura at the Junior World Championships in 1994 in Breitenwang. In Gundersen individual where he won the bronze medal. Shortly after the Junior World Championships, he began with the launch of the Nordic Combined World Cup as well as in B- World Cup. In both series, he scored this point gains in the first race. In the World Cup he finished the 1993/94 season with 77 points on the 47th place in the World Cup overall standings. At the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, he finished 25th in singles and was with Jari Mantila and Topi Sarparanta in the team competition eighth. In the following season he was again active in both the World Cup series and reached the B- World Cup twice ranks on the podium. In the World Cup, he finished at the end of 44th place overall. In the Nordic World Ski Championships 1997 in Trondheim he won the silver medal in the team competition with his teammates Jari Mantila, Samppa Lajunen and Hannu Manninen. This success was repeated by the team at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. A year later at the 1999 Nordic World Ski Championships in Ramsau am Dachstein he won the gold medal in the same occupation with the team. In the individual sprint, he reached the 12th Place and in the Gundersen the 18th Place. After the World Cup Nurmela ended his active career. In conclusion, he finished second in the overall World Cup again the 26th place.
