Honda Element

Honda Element

The Honda Element is a compact crossover SUV which was based on a modified platform Honda CR-V and was produced in East Liberty, Ohio. He was offered exclusively in North America 2002-2011.

The Element followed a concept vehicle called Model X, which was first shown at the 2001 North American International Auto Show in Detroit. It was developed by a core group of young R & D engineers in 1998. The Model X was designed to be the ideal vehicle for their activities: Combination of a pickup truck and a sport utility vehicle. They wanted a vehicle that they could use for road trips with the introduction of outdoor sports equipment, and conducted informal studies at colleges, beaches, campsites and in the mountains. The four -seat interior was optimized to additionally carry large loads. The floor is made of textured urethane that is easy to clean, the fabric is tough and stain resistant, the individual seats foldable and removable rear. The rear side doors are hinged at the rear, but no suicide doors because they can not be opened when the front doors are not open. The design dispensed with B-pillars to provide unobstructed access for side loading. Drive is a Honda 2.4-liter i -VTEC four-cylinder engine with 166 hp ( 124 kW) at 5500 rpm and 217 Nm of torque at 4500 rpm. In addition there were five-speed manual and four-speed (later five-speed ) automatic transmission.

The element gave it front-wheel drive or Honda's optional "Real Time" four-wheel drive system.

2007, a slight revision now with 10 hp increase to 176 hp along with a five-speed automatic transmission and an integrated seat belt system for the front seats. Just now this included side airbags as standard equipment as well as electronic stability control. The plastic mesh grille has been replaced by silver-colored louvers like the style of the 2005 Honda CR-V.

In December 2010, Honda announced the cessation of production of the element to the end of the model year 2011. The company said that the declining sales of the item (slightly more than 14,000 copies sold in 2010 ) compared with other Honda SUV was the impetus for the decision. Until then, 325,000 units had been sold.
