International Swimming Hall of Fame

The International Swimming Hall of Fame ( ISHOF ) is the Hall of Fame of the international swimming sport. It is located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida along the Atlantic Ocean. Your task is the recognition of outstanding achievements and contributions of athletes in the areas of swimming, water polo, diving and synchronized swimming, as well as coaches and sponsors of the swimming sport.

History

The Hall of Fame was opened by Olympic gold medalist and actor Johnny Weissmuller in 1965. The wave- shaped building complex consists of a museum, a library and an archive and contains the biggest collection of books, manuscripts, documents, memorabilia and other objects relating to swimming.

Since its opening 335 swimmers (eight long distance swimmers and 14 Masters swimmers), 81 water Springer, 36 water polo players, synchronized swimmers, 22, 77 trainers and 61 sponsors of the swimming sport from 31 countries were included in the Hall of Fame.

Admission Criteria

Admission to the Hall of Fame is decided by more than a hundred member international committee. As swimmers can be the earliest recorded four years after the end of their career and must be able to demonstrate outstanding international success. The selection criteria are ( in order of importance):

Members of the Hall of Fame

In the following, all included in the Hall of Fame since 1965 members are listed according to ( pelvic ) swimmers, long- distance swimmers, Masters swimmers, water jumpers, water polo players, synchronized swimmers, coaches and supporters. Some members are due to their services in more than one function has been added ( eg, as a water polo player and later as a coach ), they are listed in the following sub-lists but only once in their successful activity.

The figures of the German members (GER ) include the athlete from East Germany, the Russian (RUS ), the athlete from the Soviet Union.
