Jaguar XK-SS

The Jaguar XK -SS was a high performance sports car, which emerged in 1956 from the Jaguar D -Type.

The XK -SS had the six-cylinder engine of the Jaguar D -Type with 3442 cc displacement and 174 kW. Top speed was due to the comparatively large windshield at 250 km / h All vehicles caused by conversion of the still existing in the plant D-type and were intended for the U.S. market.

The vehicles received a weather cover, a windshield and a luggage rack. In the typical for the D -type tail fin has been omitted. The side pipes (lateral mufflers ) were preserved.

Until February 12, 1957 caused 17 rebuilt vehicles. That evening, a fire broke out in the plant, which destroyed 270 final or near vehicles, including any not yet converted D-Type models.
