James R. Domengeaux

James R. Domengeaux ( born January 6, 1907 in Lafayette, Louisiana, † 11 April 1988 ibid ) was an American politician (Democratic Party).

Life

Domengeaux was a respected lawyer. Between January 1941 and April 1944, he represented the state of Louisiana for the first time in the U.S. House of Representatives; Previously, he was a deputy in the Parliament of that State. He resigned his seat in Congress down to join the U.S. Army, but was retired for health reasons in the same year and returned to politics. From November 1944 to January 1949 he was back in the House of Representatives before he ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate.

In 1968 he founded the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana ( CODOFIL ). The revival of the French language in Louisiana remained his primary concern until his death.
