James W. Nye

James Warren Nye ( born June 10, 1815 in DeRuyter, Madison County, New York, † December 25, 1876 in White Plains, New York ) was an American politician.

Biography

Early life

After the school visit Nye graduated from the Homer Academy in Homer, and made at a private school in Troy his law degree. He practiced then in Madison County, the district attorney, he was 1839. Made in 1840 Nye's appointment as district judge of the county, an office which he held until 1848. In 1846 Nye ran for New York as a party member of the Free Soil party for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, but failed.

1857 Jim Nye was elected City to the First President of the Metropolitan Board of Police of New York and served until 1860.

Political career

1861 Nye was determined by Abraham Lincoln to the Republican governor of the newly created Nevada Territory, an office which brought with it a move. When three years later, in 1864, the U.S. State of Nevada, was appointed to Nye one of the first two U.S. senators. James Nye officiated from 1 February 1865 to 3 March 1873. During his tenure Nye sat on various committees. He was from 1865 to 1867 Chairman of the laws passed, 1867-1869 Member of the Committee to settle claims as a result of the Civil War and from 1869 to 1871 he was a member of the Committee on Territories.

Private

James Warren Nye was married on February 21, 1839 Elsie Ann Benson. With her he had two children, daughter Mary and son Charles. Three years after his retirement from the Senate James Warren Nye died at the age of 61 years.
