Career

Jean -Sébastien Aubin began his career in 1994 in the Canadian Junior Football League Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with the Sherbrooke Faucons, where he played two full seasons. After his first year he was selected by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the NHL Entry Draft in 1995 in the third round at position 76. Aubin played a third season in the QMJHL, he played for three teams.

In 1997 he joined the professional sector and played for the farm team of the Penguins in the lower leagues American Hockey League, International Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League. During the 1998/99 season he came for the first time in the National Hockey League action and denied 17 games. At the start of the following season, he sat down by the goalkeeper and took a convincing performance. During the 2000/ 01 season he had to contend with some injuries and shared with Garth Snow the post as number one, but showed slight weakness and was in the next two years, only the back-up goalie Johan Hedberg of Sweden. Even after the departure of Hedberg in the summer of 2003, Aubin could not retrieve the post of goalkeeper and shared with Marc -André Fleury the place as reserve goalkeeper behind Sébastien Caron.

After his contract was not renewed in Pittsburgh and the NHL season 2004/ 05 was canceled, Aubin received a sample contract with the St. John 's Maple Leafs, the AHL farm team of the Toronto Maple Leafs. In August 2005, he finally took the Toronto Maple Leafs under contract, but he did not made the jump to the NHL squad and spent most of the season with the Toronto Marlies in the AHL. In March 2006, was injured with Ed Belfour of the goalkeeper of the Maple Leafs and Aubin moved as a substitute goalkeeper behind Mikael Tellqvist on to the NHL team. But Tellqvist weakened and Aubin took over for the last eleven games of the season the post as number one and was able to bring with nine wins a very convincing performance.

For the season 2006/ 07 he could recommend for the NHL team and became the number two behind Andrew Raycroft. He came 20 times used, but played a poor season. After Vesa Toskala with a potential goalkeeper has been committed by the Maple Leafs in the summer of 2007 and we also wanted to continue to hold on to the younger Raycroft was Aubin's expiring contract not be renewed.

It was not until the end of August 2007 took Aubin in the Los Angeles Kings a new employer, who gave him a one- year contract. In the first half of the season he was the goalkeeper coach drawn by Jason LaBarbera, but was then removed for Dan Cloutier from the squad. End of February 2008 Aubin was eventually transferred to the Anaheim Ducks, but where he was exclusively for their AHL farm team, the Portland Pirates, play.

After the expiry of his contract in the summer of 2008 he was engaged by the Philadelphia Flyers. In summer 2009, Aubin joined the DEG Metro Stars in the German Ice Hockey League. The French Canadians grabbed quickly in Germany feet and was equally excellent in his first season by an expert panel of the Hockey News as the best goalkeeper in the DEL 2010. With his team, however, he dropped out in just three playoff games in the quarter- final against Wolfsburg. Already during the 2009/2010 season his contract was extended on 18 December 2009 for a further two years. In his second season at DEG no longer even managed Aubin, however, among the top ten goalkeeper of the year, experts including DEG CEO Lance Nethery justified with problems from his time in North America, since it already in his time in the NHL lack of motivation and work ethic had been accused, which would have prevented a longer career in the best league in the world. Aubin itself, however, justified his weaker goalkeeper values with a more offensive style of play under Jeff Tomlinson as it had been the case under his predecessor Harold circle.

In summer 2012 he changed to the Italian Serie A1, where he signed with HC Val Pusteria.
