Jens Byggmark

Jens Pontus Byggmark ( born August 22, 1985 in Örebro ) is a Swedish alpine skier. His specialist discipline is the slalom, but he also starts in the Giant Slalom and in the combination.

Biography

Byggmark grew up in Tärnaby. After he had collected from his 15 years at FIS races racing experience, he went from 2003 for the Swedish national team in the European Cup at the start. He drew attention to himself especially in slalom from December 2005 with top results. In February 2005, he had a sixth place in the giant slalom and seventh listen up already at the Junior World Championship in Italy Bardonecchia in the slalom.

His debut in the World Cup he gave in January 2005 in Kitzbühel, stayed with his sporadic missions but first without placement on the front ranks. For the 2006/07 season Byggmark was appointed to the Swedish World Cup squad. Right at the season opener in Finland Levi he went surprisingly the second best run time in the second round to sixth place. Three weeks later, he confirmed with fifth place in the slalom in Beaver Creek its performance.

On 27 January 2007, he won his first World Cup race, the slalom in Kitzbuehel. Only 24 hours later, he was able to confirm this success with the second victory in Kitzbühel. On 30 January 2007, he reached the second place in the night slalom in Schladming. He finished second in the 2006/07 season in third place in the slalom World Cup. In the 2007 World Ski Championships in Åre, he won the Swedish team the silver medal in the team competition. In the 2007 /08 season reached Byggmark three second-place finishes in the slalom in Bad Kleinkirchheim, Wengen and Kitzbühel. Otherwise, however, he had to contend with many failures and he fell back to tenth place in the slalom World Cup. Numerous failures he suffered in the 2008 /09 season. Byggmark could score only three times and reached the best result in tenth place in the slalom in Alta Badia. Also at the 2009 World Championships in Val d'Isere he reached the finish in the slalom neither yet in the giant slalom. Due to the lack of success in the World Cup, he started from February 2009 again increased in the European Cup.

In the 2009/10 season Byggmark reached again only in three World Cup slalom races the goal. His best result was the 13th place in Alta Badia. He participated in the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver and took part in the 22th place. In the European Cup he won this winter slalom in Pozza di Fassa and reached another podium finish in third place in the slalom standings. In the season 2010/11 Byggmark improved in the World Cup again significantly. He was very consistent and scored in nine of the ten World Cup slalom race of the winter. First time in over two years, he reached Top 10 rankings again. In the Alpine World Ski Championships 2011 in Garmisch -Partenkirchen, he surprisingly won the silver medal. In the World Cup 2011/12 season he scored six top - 10 finishes.

As a third in the slalom in Levi on November 11, 2012 Byggmark was after four and a half years on the podium again a World Cup competition. At the World Championships 2013 he won the silver medal in the team competition. During summer training in Saas -Fee in September 2013, he suffered a torn ACL, so he will miss the entire 2013/14 season.
