History

In the course of administrative reform in Bavaria, the merger of the two communities Großwelzheim and Dettingen took place on 1 July 1975. In a poll, the community citizens decided this is the name of Karl Stein, who already appears in the year 1000 in a description of Aschaffenburg forest district and a Grenzmal referred to the former district boundary between Dettingen and Großwelzheim.

In today's municipality of Karlstejn there were a number of historical nuclear power plants. See also:

Therefore, the coat of arms includes parts of the former municipal arms of these districts. It dates from the late Gothic period and is located in the Church of St. Hippolytus in the district of Dettingen. The atomic symbol in the lower part is the coat of arms coat of arms of the former municipality Großwelzheim removed. Within their boundaries, the first German nuclear power plant was built as an experimental power plant. After the completion of current was fed into the electricity grid from 1961.
