Kees Verkerk

Cornelis Arie " Kees " Verkerk ( born October 28, 1942 in Maasdam ) is a retired Dutch speed skater.

Career

Kees Verkerk in 1966 in Gothenburg and in 1967 in Oslo around World Champion. In the years 1969 and 1971 he won the bronze medal at the World Championships. In 1967 he was in Oslo also European champion.

At the Olympic Games 1964 in Innsbruck Verkerk won over 1500 meters silver medal. Four years later he was in Grenoble over this distance Olympic champion and runner-up over 5000 meters. In Sapporo, he won in 1972 at the end of his Olympic career again silver in the 10,000 meters.

Together with his fellow countryman Ard Schenk in 1973 he founded a professional league, but had only two years inventory.

Verkerk presented during his playing days at eight world records. He led the Peerage 1967-1971 for 1444 days. Its maximum value was 168.033 points.

He was twice awarded the Oscar Mathisen Memorial Trophy.
