Klingenthal

Geography

Klingenthal lies directly on the border with the Czech Republic, opposite Kraslice ( Graslitz ), at the foot of Mount Aschberg ( 936 m above sea level. NN ). The 10.5 kilometers with extremely elongated city is surrounded by coniferous forests (mainly spruce ).

History

At the Zwota near the Bohemian border, a hammer mill was built to take advantage of the nearby deposits of iron ore, as well as the extensive forests of the region from 1591 by Sebastian Koeppel. Then took place on February 1, 1602, the first mention of the name " Höllhammer " in the church records of the town Schoeneck. There lived at this time there forge, miners and charcoal burners. 1628 burns down the hammer and will not be established until the Hammergut again. At that time Quittenbach was not one of Klingenthal and is registered as a fief in Voigtsberg.
