Krishna district

Krishna ( Telugu: కృష్ణా జిల్లా ) is one of 23 districts in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. The administrative center is the city of Machilipatnam.

Geography

Krishna belongs with its 8727 km ² to the area the smallest districts in the state of Andhra Pradesh. From the surface are only 664 km 2 (7.6 percent), forested .. To the north it borders on the district of Khammam, in the east to the district West Godavari, on the south by the Bay of Bengal, on the west by the district of Guntur and northwest by Nalgonda district. The coastal area is fairly flat. On the other hand, there are inland several hill ranges under which the Kondapalli between Vijayawada and Nandigama is the longest. The most important rivers in the district are the Krishna, the Muniyeru, the Tammileru and Budameru.

Climate

The climate is divided into four seasons. March to May is the summer time with a severe drought and high temperatures. The southwest monsoon from mid-June to early October brings the most plentiful rain. The northeast monsoon from mid-October to the end of December brings somewhat lower, but still significant amounts of rain. And January and February is winter with cooler temperatures. The long-term average rainfall in the district is 1034 mm per year. The southwest monsoon brings 686 mm and the northeast monsoon 250 mm of annual rainfall. Otherwise falls only a little rain. This leads to dehydration of the cultivated land in the dry season, which runs from January to Mai. Population

At the last census 2011 4.529.009 inhabitants were counted. Of these, 2,268,312 were men ( 50.1 percent) and 2,260,697 women. Among the Dalits were 2001 746.832 ( 17.8 percent), the Adivasi 107 611 ( 2.6 per cent) people. Of the total number of inhabitants lived 2011 1.857.291 persons ( 41.01 percent) in urban areas. The majority of the population of the district of Krishna speaks Telugu. In the whole district there are 948 inhabited villages.

A clear majority of the population belongs to the Hindus. Besides them, there are still a significant number of Muslims and Christians.

As everywhere in India is growing, the population in the district Krishna for decades strong. Significant places

Strongest town inhabitants of the district is Vijayawada with around 850,000 inhabitants. Other important cities with over 100,000 inhabitants are the chief town of Machilipatnam and Gudivada.

Economy

The majority of the population is employed in agriculture. Mainly rice, black grams, cotton, corn and sugar cane are grown. There is little industry ( sugar processing, energy, cement). Mineral resources are found chromite, diamonds and iron ore. In the cities, the people of the commercial life of goods and services.

History

The district was originally called Machilipatnam district. He received its present name in 1859 after the annexation of individual areas of the then defunct district Guntur. 1904 split from the current Guntur district of Krishna. A further reduction was made in 1925, when the present-day West Godavari district seceded.

Management

The district comprises 50 Mandals Krishna ( talukas ) and 948 inhabited villages.

Politically the district is now divided into the four control districts Gudivada, Machilipatnam, Nuzvid and Vijayawada.
