La Nucia

La Nucia (on Valenciano, La Nucia [ la nu'sia ] ) is a municipality in the Valencian Community, Spain. It is located in the province of Alicante and has 19,524 inhabitants ( 1 January 2013).

Geography

La Nucia is located in a valley between Benidorm and Callosa de Ensarriá, about eight kilometers from Benidorm and thus the coast. The place is situated on a promontory with a view of the Mediterranean, 51 km north of Alicante. The municipality borders the towns of La Nucia Benidorm, Altea, Callosa de Ensarriá, Polop and Alfaz del Pi

La Nucia is accessible via the new four-lane CV -70 from Benidorm.

Districts

La Nucia consists of the original village center and more than 24 peripheral housing estates ( urbanizaciones ): Panorama, Varadero, Floriana, Holiday Club, Finca Martina, Las Ruedas, Arcos Este, La Torre, Arcos Norte, Sol Salient, Venta del Aire, San Rafael, Barranc Fondo, Nucia Park, Entrepinos, Patrax, El Valle, Montebello, El torrent, Puerto Azul, Maylan, Azagador, Los Rosales, La Colina and El Tossal.

History

The city's name comes from the Arabic and was Naziha, which means " sweet". At the beginning of the 17th century it belonged to the Baron Alfonso Fajardo of Benidorm. La Nucia in 1705 an independent municipality.
