Left Alliance (Finland)

Vasemmistoliitto (German Left Alliance, abbreviation Vas, . Schwed. Vänsterförbundet, abbreviation vf ) is a Finnish party, which was founded in 1990 as an alternative to the left of the Social Democratic Party of Finland. It emerged from the Democratic Union of the Finnish people primarily.

History

The Left Alliance was founded in 1990 in Helsinki and walked out of the Democratic Union of the Finnish people ( Suomen kansan demokraattinen liitto, SKDL ), the Communist Party of Finland ( Suomen puolue communist routines, SKP ) and the Democratic Alliance of Finnish women ( Suomen naisten demokraattinen liitto, SNDL ) out. There were also members of the Democratic Alternative ( Demokraattinen vaihtoehto, DeVa ), which had the mid-1980s split off from the SKP / SKDL. Thus, the Left Alliance received a heterogeneous composition. Claes Andersson became the first party leader. Former members of the Communist Party were already leaving early 1990s again the Left Alliance and formed a new Communist Party of Finland.

The Left Alliance joined in 1995 the " rainbow coalition " (from the Social Democrats, the conservative National Coalition Party, the Swedish People's Party, the Greens Federation and the Left Alliance ) under Paavo Lipponen at and remained even after the elections of 1999 to 2003 the government. Since 2003, the Left Alliance was in opposition. After the elections in April 2011, with a result of 8.1 %, the party was in June 2011 as part of a coalition (Cabinet Katainen ) back into government. However, leaving two of the 14 Members of Parliament in 2011, the Group and make a own since then, opposition group in parliament. After differences due to savings plans of the government in child benefit and social compensation the Left Alliance left on 25 March 2014, the coalition. The two ministers of the party Paavo Arhinmäki and Merja Kyllönen submitted their resignations.
