Legnano
Legnano ( dt: Ligni ) is a city in northern Italy, north-west of Milan at the Olona, with 58 335 inhabitants ( 31 December 2012). The city has a designed by Bramante church with altarpiece by Bernardo Luini. A major employer is the mechanical engineering industry.
In the Battle of Legnano on May 29, 1176, the army Emperor Frederick I Barbarossa defeated the Milanese troops. Giuseppe Verdi processed the issue in his opera " La Battaglia di Legnano ", which was premiered in 1849.
