Leninsk-Kuznetsky (city)

Leninsk- Kuznetsk (Russian Ленинск - Кузнецкий, until 1922 Kolchugino / Кольчугино, 1922-1925 Lenino / Ленино ) is a city in the western part of the Russian oblast of Kemerovo in Siberia. It has 101 666 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) and is located approximately 90 km south of Kemerovo on the right bank of the Inja, a tributary of the Ob.

History

The settlement was founded in 1763 as Kolchugino and has since 1925 a city. Coal mining was started by a French company in 1912.

From 1922 to 1925, the place was called Lenino in honor of the revolutionary leader Lenin. Its present, also reminiscent of Lenin name and the suffix " Kuznetsk ", similar to the situation in the Kuznetsk Basin, he was awarded with the City rights award in 1925.

In the 1980s, the nearby urban-type settlement Polyssajewo, which was under the management of Leninsk- Kuznetsk already since 1952, incorporated, so that the population of the city grew by about 30,000. Already on 30 October 1989 Polyssajewo was spun again, now with independent city status.

Economy and Transport

Leninsk- Kuznetsk is one of the centers of coal mining in the Kuzbass. Many mines are located within the city; repeatedly occur there momentous accidents.

The area surrounding the city is used for intensive agriculture.

Leninsk- Kuznetsk is located at the intersection of highways Leninsk- Kuznetsk - Novosibirsk and Kemerovo - Novokuznetsk. In addition, it is up to the railroad tracks - Novosibirsk Novokuznetsk and Kemerovo - Novokuznetsk. Since 1984, the city has a trolley bus route network.

Sports
