Linas Antanas Linkevičius

Linas Antanas Linkevičius ( born January 6, 1961 in Vilnius) is a Lithuanian politician and diplomat.

Biography

From 1978 to 1983 Linas Linkevičius graduated from the electrical engineering degree from the Polytechnic Institute of Kaunas. Linas Linkevičius was KP- district secretary of the Kaunas district Panemunė, head of the Central Committee and journalist of the newspaper " Komjaunimo tiesa " (Lithuanian version of the Komsomolskaya Pravda ). He was actively involved in creating opportunities for repatriation of the bodies of Lithuanian displaced persons from Siberia.

On February 9, 1992, he was President of the Council of the Lithuanian Labour Youth Union ( Lietuvos leiboristų Jaunimo unija ). From 1990, he was a correspondent for the daily newspaper " Tiesa " ( the Lithuanian version of Pravda ) (1992-1993 employees) and consultants of LDDP - Parliamentary Group. From November 24th 1992 to November 22, 1996 Linas Linkevičius was a member of the Seimas and headed the Lithuanian Parliament delegation to NATO. On October 9, 1997, he was Lithuanian Ambassador to NATO. From 1996 to 2004 he was - with interruptions - Lithuanian defense minister. Since December 2012, he is Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania. He had role in managing the country's EU presidency in 2013.

Since 2004 Linas Linkevičius is a member of the Social Democratic Party of Lithuania.
