Geography

Geographical Location

Lindberg is the Danube- forest in the heart of the Bavarian Forest to the glass road at the foot of the 1,315 m high Falkenstein's only 4 km from Zwiesel and 14 km northeast of the county town rain, 30 km northwest of Grafenau and 14 km from the border crossing with the Czech Republic in Bavarian Eisenstein.

In the eastern part of its territory - near the Czech border - is the high moor Schluttergasse with the Latschensee.

History

Lindberg belonged to Rentamt Straubing and the district court Zwiesel the Electorate of Bavaria. The founding of the town goes back to the year 1345, where it has already spoken 1356 of 19 farms in Lindberg. Gradually, 21 districts were added, which together, the current community ( founded in 1821) form, including Buchenau.

In 1997 about two-thirds of the municipal area were declared Bavarian Forest to the expansion of the National Park and thus placed under strict protection.

Great Tradition has glass art, especially in the district Ludwigsthal.

Glashütte Ludwigsthal

The lying in the municipality town Ludwigsthal emerged, including his own shanty town from a very famous glass works. This was established from Hurkenthal in Šumava 1826 by the glassworks master Georg Christoph Abele and named after King Louis I.. The operation was, along with Schwarzenthal at Philippsreut to the first significant mirror glass factories in the former Bavaria. Died in 1833 the cottage founder, whereupon his brother Ferdinand took over the management of the company. The wife of G. Ch Abeles son, William, was born a Hafenbrädl led the cottage from 1844 until its bankruptcy in 1861. The butcher Josef Pauli from Zwiesel auctioned the property and ceased production after two fires (1871 and 1873) on hollow glass order. 1901 leased Anton Roeck from Zwiesel operation and, together with the nearby rain hut and the hut in Schliersee in Bavaria a corporation. Finances

Partner community

  • The Parish Church of St. Joseph the Worker in Lindberg is a sleek modern building by A. Horn Steiner from 1958
  • The parish church of Holy Heart of Jesus in Ludwigsthal one of the artistically most important religious buildings from the turn of the century. It was built in 1893 /94 by Johann Baptist Schott and equipped in the interior of the well-known Art Nouveau artist Franz Hofstötter with glass mosaics and painted windows, and with Byzantine-style frescoes.

  • Bauernhausmuseum Lindberg: 1975 an old, erected in block construction farm in Lindberg Handlos by Franz and his wife Helga was opened as a museum.
