List of chess openings
The term ECO codes ( Encyclopedia of Chess Openings, German also ECO - key ) is called an internationally used system for systematizing of openings of chess.
History
It was first introduced in the mid -1970s in the standard work Encyclopedia of Chess Openings ( "Encyclopedia of Chess Openings "). Built is this encyclopedia index keys according to five main groups, designated A to E. Each major group is again divided into 100 sub-groups starting at 00 to 99 Each main group will be published in a separate volume. The band C is now in front in the fifth edition, the volumes A, B and D in the fourth, the band E in the third.
The master games, the ECO table is based, are from the biannual magazine Chess Informant and were also analyzed. Well-known chess players have compiled these games since 1966 for publication in the Encyclopedia. Both the Encyclopedia of Chess Openings and the magazine are from the Serbian publisher Sahovski Informator ( German: Chess Informant ) issued. The Encyclopedia has a circumference of about 2300 pages. There are issues on CD -ROM. Under the title " Small Encyclopaedia of Chess Openings " is also a shortened version is also available in one volume.
Some sources extend the ECO code with the appending digits. So the move order 1 e4 Nf6 2 d3 ( Maroczy variant of the Alekhine Defence ) is named using the code B02.3, while the Scandinavian variant ( 2 Sc3 ) is labeled B02.4.

The keys begin with the general cases and branch into ever more specialized headways.
" A00 " is the key that contains all trains, other than those that are not explicitly mentioned in the remaining keys; So all first trains except b2 -b3, f2 - f4 -f3 Sg1, c2 - c4, d2 -d4 and e2 -e4.
" A01 " includes all variants, starting with the train " 1 b2 -b3 ".
" A02 " includes all variants, starting with the train " 1 f2 - f4 ", except those that are still called explicitly in the remaining keys. So all variants except 1 f2 - f4 d7 -d5.
" A03 " includes all variants, starting with the line of play " 1 f2 - f4 d7 -d5 ".
